A few days ago, I asked for your help and suggestions regarding a purchase of an everyday business watch. After lots of research, I decided to look into purchasing my first pre-owned/vintage watch.
Today, I took the dive and purchased a 1970's Omega Seamaster cal.1020. The one in the pictures is the actual watch. It has been recently serviced and has a repainted dial. Best of all, it fit in my budget! Vintage ftw. Thank you all for your help.

Classic design. It says “automatic” on it. As in kinetic? If so, I’d be interested to see how accurate it stays over time.

According to what I've read, it should stay + or - about 7 seconds per day, assuming it's been serviced well.

Blue dials are sweet. Looks very nice, too, since everything has been polished and put back together.
Also, even if it’s a off buy several seconds each day, if you have a few watches, you’ll probably end up winding it again every few days when you actually want to wear it. There’s something fascinating about a nice automatic watch, especially since everything I use relies on some kind of battery, for better or for worse.

Awesome choice. I was going to comment when I saw the original post but got caught up at work. That vintage watch is gorgeous and a much better buy than anything else you could’ve found in the brand new market for that price range.
Curious where you bought it and what kind of research you did, points you looked out for etc. ?

Those are nice watches. They maintain value quite well at that point too, if well maintained. I sold mine in a rough period of joblessness and got back more than what I paid for it.

Thanks! As scary as it seems, I bought it on EBAY. I went through the Omega and other watch forums to gather as much information about the model as possible. Then I asked the seller to send me more photos, so that I knew that he wasn’t using stock photos. I asked him many questions and he was prompt with responses. Specifically, I looked for marks on the watch case and band. I also made sure that everything on the dial was correct.

I hate to say this, but the caseback looks a bit suspect. I’ve never seen one with such undefined lettering on the back. Did you get photos of the movement or the inside of the caseback?
ETA: Also, the “Automatic” wording should be under the “Seamaster”, not under “OMEGA”. You may want to get this looked at...

Damn, you're right.

The case and the dial look right, so it could just be using a crappy caseback for the restoration, and the misplaced lettering was probably a mistake. Still, you need to pop that open and make sure it’s got an OMEGA movement and identification on the inside of the caseback. If it’s been serviced you should see the date scratched into the caseback or drawn with marker, and the movement should look clean.

After you mentioned the dial letting, I visited the Omega forums and saw many examples where automatic is written underneath Omega.

You are right about the case back though. It does look kinda undefined.

Seems odd that they would be so careless about that. It’s gorgeous, but I’d still get it checked out to be sure. I’m sure it’s real, but damn that’s an awful looking caseback.

As the owner (and daily wearer) of an Omega Constellation, I think that you made a great choice.

I asked the seller for a shot of the movement. He also sent me one of the case back showing the service mark. Thanks for looking out for me.

Damn how did I miss this post?
Lovely watch you ended up with. I see the conversation has already happened on the case back, so at least it is legit from the sound of it. That blue face is beautiful. Congrats!

Thanks! I took it to a watchmaker this afternoon to have the case opened. The case back looked much worse in the pictures than in person. It is the original case back.

That’s good. It looks like whoever owned it before took care of it. As long as you do the same, it will be a great piece for years to come.
